World Economic Forum: the role of AI in reducing urban pollution

The World Economic Forum asked us to write about the role of AI in reducing urban pollution. Artificial intelligence (AI) enhances how we detect and forecast urban air pollution by analyzing large, complex datasets from sensors, satellites and even crowdsourced data. AI tools offer personalized insights into pollution exposure, enabling individuals to make healthier choices in their daily routines. While AI holds great promise, its deployment must be inclusive and ethically guided – without careful implementation, it could exacerbate existing inequalities, especially in underserved regions.

Welcome to the twenty-second edition of our newsletter, as we grow our team and take stock of strategy with our advisers. This newsletter is aimed at investors, collaborators, future hires and early adopters of our products.

As the Lancet Global Countdown on Health and Climate Change releases its latest report and the Climate Change COP starts next week, we are reminded of how we contribute to wider environmental and societal goals at Air Aware Labs. Air pollution is the threat that makes environmental concerns real, given its direct impact on health. This is something Louise discussed in her contribution to TripShift's first Straight Talk Sustainability blog. By making the link between the environment and health in a tangible way, we can help achieve both goals.  Please join us on our mission - Personalising Air Quality, for everyone.

Hot off the press

  • we have expanded our team again this week, bringing in two software engineers from Arcanys. We are hugely excited about what this increased capability can bring, as well as a long-term partnership with this excellent company. It also officially marks our moment to becoming a truly international team, with engineers in the Philippines as well as our American interns
  • this week we took stock of our strategy with our advisers, who always bring huge value. It was also the first time some of the founding team met each other in person! We looked at where have come from and how to prioritise our future work, bearing in mind market size, ability to access these markets and product-market fit
  • we have started work with the Innovate UK Business Growth programme for high-growth companies, and closer to home, we have joined the Lambeth Climate Partnership.
